MORE than 6500 Ararat and district homes and businesses lost power for an hour on Thursday morning after a fault at the zone substation.

The power was out between 9.07am until about 10am.
Great Western, Willaura and Lake Bolac properties were affected, as were more than 10 further outlying communities.
Powercor spokesman Drew Douglas said the organisation was investigating the cause of the fault.
"We apologise to those customers," he said.
He said Powercor was also investigating a transformer defect impacting six Crowlands customers.
