THE old Minyip Post Office will throw open its doors on Saturday for a viewing of the historic building.
The post office, one of the primary post offices built after Federation, closed in 2010 after 109 years of operation.
The office and residence features six fireplaces, a grand staircase and a formal dining room.
Former Sutton Grange woman Michelle Brabender moved to Minyip after buying the house three months ago.
“I had never been to Minyip before and didn’t even know where it was when I saw the advertisement,” she said.
“I didn’t care where the house was – I was going to buy it.
“I will never regret the purchase because it is just beautiful.”
Ms Brabender said Saturday’s viewing would give Wimmera residents an insight into the building’s history.
“The front part of the building has always been the post office but the door has been shut on the residence,” she said.
“The building is magnificent and I feel like it is my duty to show anyone who is interested.
“When I first walked through the place I was in awe.
“It is a great looking building on the outside but it is even better on the inside.”
Entry for the viewing, between 10am and 2pm, is by gold coin donation, with money donated to Minyip Lions Club.
