Horsham Rural City Council agreed to sell a parcel of land at 2537 Blue Ribbon Road for $5000 on Monday night.
The sale will allow the CFA to build a new station for the North Wimmera brigade next to Sailors Home Hall.
The CFA has already obtained a planning permit from council’s building department, allowing the station to be constructed.
District 17 operations manager Dale Russell said the Murra Warra station was among those the CFA identified for an upgrade.
“The project has been on the go for some months now,” he said.
“We spoke to council about it and once we’ve secured the purchase of the site we’ll be able to go back to the authority for funding for the station.
“We’re hoping to secure the funding in the next couple of years.”
Mr Russell said the brigade’s 50-plus members were operating out of an old building in Dogwood Road.
“It’s small, cramped and typical of the time it was built some 30 or 40 years ago,” he said.
He said the new station would be classified as a 1A fire station with two bays.
“The new station will be on a bitumen road, which will be much better and will allow the members to easily go in any direction,” he said.
Cr Heather Phillips said the new station would be centrally located.
She said it made sense to have the Sailors Home Hall and the new CFA building together, rather than on their own.
