Her parents Sophie and Matthew Jenkinson were overjoyed by the arrival of their first child.
Sienna was born at 10.45pm in Wimmera Base Hospital.
Mr Jenkinson said she was due a few weeks earlier.
“She was waiting for the fire crackers,” he said.
“It’s a special thing to be the first baby of the year and it gives us a sense of pride.
“She will get to have two parties every year.”
Mrs Jenkinson said they were pleased she wasn’t a Christmas baby.
The couple are looking forward to being parents.
“I’ve never met a parent who said they regretted it,” Mr Jenkinson said.
Mrs Jenkinson said she was a keen gardener and was looking forward to having some help planting trees when Sienna was older.
She said they had a different named picked for their daughter but changed it when they saw her.
“Sienna was what she looked like,” she said.
“We had something entirely different but that was not who she was.”
Mr Jenkinson said they chose the middle name Grace because of its Biblical connotations.
