Wimmera Container Line general manager Allister Boyce said the containers were transported on nine weekly intermodal trains between Melbourne and Dooen.
"This accounts for more than 300 truck movements that have been taken off the Western Highway each week," he said.
The freight terminal has been operating at Dooen since August 2012.
Mr Boyce said the volume of freight moving through the terminal had peaked over harvest.
"Harvest had a big impact, and we are now trying to keep that consistency throughout the year," he said.
"That's our long term vision and it's about building our customer base."
Rupanyup's Wimmera Grain Company started working with Wimmera Container Line in December to export more grain by rail.
Mr Boyce said freight movements at the site were exceeding expectations.
"We are looking at more all the time though the sky is the limit," he said.
"That's what supply and demand is all about."
He said the design of the terminal was proving practical for its purpose.
Qube Logistics began operating with Wimmera Container Line at the terminal last month.
Mr Boyce said it was great to see both companies working together.
He said that before Qube, only three to four services were running through the terminal each week.
"The services were under-used now all services are full to capacity," he said.
"It's good to see the terminal healthy."
Mr Boyce said the site could provide for trains up to 1.8-kilometres long.
Horsham Mayor David Grimble said it was encouraging to see the site being used for what it was designed for.
"We are seeing more freight on rail which was the key driver of this project," he said.
He said it was good to see the terminal busy.
"It means the harvest was very good in the Wimmera and now we can shift that product by rail," he said.
"This is clearly the cheapest way to move large volumes of freight."
Cr Grimble said the movement at the site showed council had designed a functional terminal.
