The next season of the show – which begins on Channel Ten on Sunday night – features Ararat as a town challenged to turn its health around.
Ararat was declared Victoria’s fattest town in 2011.
Ararat Mayor Paul Hooper said a large screen would be set up in the gardens so residents could watch the first episode together.
“The event will mark a celebration of the hard work that our community has undertaken so far and provide a reminder that there is still more work to do,” he said.
“We have seen a marked increase in the number of people up and about in the municipality and we want to ensure this continues long after The Biggest Loser has gone.”
Cr Hooper said activities would kick off at 5pm.
He said people would have the opportunity to walk laps of the lake together, do a short workout and gain advice and ideas from a personal trainer on how to get active.
He said some of the contestants who were on the show would be at the event for a chat and ‘pebble’ activity trackers would be available for people who wanted to enter the next big Ararat Challenge starting on February 3.
“The pebbles proved to be a great motivator for people in the last challenge to compete either openly or secretly with themselves and others in the town, and the kiosks enabled people to weigh in and check health data regularly,” he said.
Cr Hooper said there would be another 500 pebbles available to Ararat people for the new challenge.
He said pebbles would be distributed through Ararat Regional Library Service with a kiosk available at both the library and the YMCA for people to undertake progress checks.
He said people who registered for a pebble would receive information on challenge activities throughout the year.
Cr Hooper said people could email healthytogether@ararat.vic.gov.au or text 0400 587 403 with their details to preregister for a pebble.
