HORSHAM Lawn Black closed the gap on the boys 17 and under A Grade ladder-leader Laharum in a narrow four-game win on Saturday morning at Laharum Tennis Club.
Lawn Black secured a 4-38 to 4-33 victory on the back of
impressive doubles efforts from Hugh and Angus Gove and a big singles win to Ethan McRae.
Haven moved closer to a top-four finish, with a 6-42 to 2-33 win against a competitive Central Park side.
Haven's Jesse Wilkinson and Ben Garwood progressed through their three rubbers undefeated.
In the girls 17 and under A Grade, Central Park Purple comfortably accounted for Central Park Gold 7-44 to 1-24, Central Park Pink defeated Haven 5-37 to 3-34 and Horsham Lawn knocked off Central Park Orange, 6-43 to 2-30. Jess McDonald, Maddison Watts and Ellena Binney were unbeaten for Lawn Purple, which leapfrogged Haven into fourth place on the ladder.
Laharum and Quantong cannot be separated at the top of the boys 14 and under ladder, collecting wins against Central Park Orange and Horsham Lawn Green respectively.
Laharum was again well-served by Rueben Launder in its 5-36 to 3-35 win and he has now won almost 90 percent of his singles and doubles sets this season.
Central Park Black jumped off the bottom of the ladder with a four-set win over Horsham Lawn Blue.
In the girls 14 and under A Grade, top team Quantong beat third-placed Haven Blue eight sets to none, while Horsham Lawn Pink had an important win over Central Park and Haven Red accounted for Horsham Lawn Purple. Quantong quartet Maddison Focroul, Emma Buwalda, Lucy Brand and Indi Chipperfield gave up just 18 games in their big win against Haven Blue.
Haven Blue and Haven Red had wins in the 12 and under boys A Grade division, while Haven Green Laharum, Natimuk Blue and Central Park Purple recorded victories in the 12 and under girls C Grade competition.
Haven Blue boys team Charles Schache, Kaden Driller, Bailey Driller and Jack Milbourne won all six doubles rubbers against Horsham Lawn, while Central Park Purple's girls team of Rachel Flack, Ebony Scott, Gemma Walker and Paige English achieved the same feat against Haven Yellow.
Junior tennis continues on Saturday morning, with four rounds remaining until finals.
