This year’s main event is part of the first Telstra Store Rural Tri Series, with athletes able to accrue points towards an overall championship across five races in regional Victoria.
Horsham will also host an adults short-course triathlon, a duathlon and four different junior events, with swim legs to again be conducted in the Wimmera River.
Race organiser Patrick Ellis said preparation was underway, with eager athletes already starting to practise in the river.
“The buoys have been placed in the Wimmera River downstream from the bridge, which means people are already heading there and practising their open water swimming,” he said.
“The river is looking fantastic for the swim leg and we have a new run course that follows the river bank the entire way.”
The long course event involves a 500-metre swim, 20-kilometre ride and five-kilometre run, while the short course includes a 200-metre swim, seven-kilometre ride and 2.5-kilometre run.
Ellis said the short course was a great way for people to get involved.
“The short course is heaps of fun, we get everyone from mums, dads and grandparents giving it a crack and riding all sorts of bicycles,” he said.
“It’s all about participating in a great community event and getting a work-out along the way.”
Junior events will start at 4pm, with seniors from 5pm.
Ellis said registrations were open online at www.trihorsham.com.au.
