Jenny McRae – Golf
The first nominee for 2013, Horsham golfer Jenny McRae won the Victorian Senior Women’s Golf Championship, in Horsham.
McRae has been one of her club’s most consistent performers over a long period of time, highlighted by the fact she is a 14-time Horsham Golf Club ladies champion.
Ashley Bolwell – Shooting
Could it be a second Sports Star Of The Year award for Ashley Bolwell?
The Mockinya clay target shooter finished third at last year’s National Championships in Perth, earning selection in Australia’s five-man shooting squad for next month’s World Championships in New Zealand.
Levi Burns – Golf
Young golfer Levi Burns held his nerve in the Horsham Golf Club’s A Grade championship.
He fought off reigning club champion Scott Boschen, coming from a shot down to force a playoff and win on the first playoff hole.
Ken Bald – Croquet
Kalimna Park croquet player Ken Bald has had another exceptional year, and could be in line to add to his 2011 triumph.
Bald competed in his ninth Eire Cup – Australia’s annual state tournament – was at one stage in the world’s top 20 players and represented Australia at the prestigious MacRobertson Shield in New Zealand.
Jess Radford – Volleyball
It’s been a big year for teenage volleyballer Jess Radford, winning silver with Victoria’s under-19 women’s team at the National Junior titles in Canberra.
She also guided Horsham to its maiden division one Country Championship title, gaining All Star Seven selection.
Darcy Tucker – AFL Football
Another prodigious sporting talent is Horsham teenager Darcy Tucker, one of 30 AIS-AFL Academy level one scholarship recipients for 2013.
Tucker impressed for Vic Country under-16s in their national title win last year, also making his senior football debut with Horsham Saints and TAC Cup debut with North Ballarat Rebels.
Jordie McAuliffe – Netball
Kalkee netballer Jordie McAuliffe won her nomination for her efforts as vice-captain of Victoria’s gold-medal winning team at the School Sport Australia Netball Championships last year.
The gun all-rounder also made state finals in athletics, cross country and girls football, and participated in representative basketball.
Anna Bush – Athletics
Star junior athlete Anna Bush claimed five gold medals at the School Sport Victoria Greater Western Region track and field championships.
The Horsham Little Athletics member earned an invitation to attend a nation training camp in Canberra, and qualified for the SSV State Championships and All School Championships.
Craig Kelly – Shooting
Central Wimmera clay target shooter Craig Kelly was selected as part of the five-man Victorian team for April’s Nationals in Wagga Wagga.
He won two titles at the Victorian Clay Target Association State Trap Carnival, taking the high gun honour and winning the points score event.
Steffi McDonald and Sacha McDonald – Tennis
Up-and-coming tennis stars Steffi and Sacha McDonald (unrelated) were joint nominees in December, after playing a key role in Wimmera winning the Foundation Cup for the first time.
