Cr Grimble announced his intentions on Sunday, describing the role of Member for Lowan as a continuation of his involvement in local government.
"I've been considering it for some time," he said.
He is serving his second term as mayor of Horsham Rural City Council, and involved in a wealth of community groups and initiatives.
Highlights include his involvement in the Country Fire Authority, as the Grampians Group officer.
Cr Grimble said his passion was to serve his community.
"My role in local government is an excellent platform in knowing how to serve the Lowan electorate," he said.
He is one of five candidates who have nominated for Nationals pre-selection for the position.
Haven resident Russell McKenzie, Horsham football administrator Bruce Petering, Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital chief executive Emma Kealy and Horsham businesswoman Andrea Cross have all announced they will seek pre-selection.
Nationals Member for Lowan Hugh Delahunty will retire at the November election.
The Liberal Party will not contest the seat.
