A day earlier, she and husband Robert, known as Bob, had celebrated their milestone 60th wedding anniversary.
The Man in the Corner story was about Bonwick’s Jeweller in Horsham where, 61 years earlier, Mr Gerdtz had bought his future wife’s engagement ring.
Mrs Gerdtz, nee Purcell, said she was surprised to see the mention.
“It was really eerie,’’ she said.
“It was just a funny feeling.’’
Mr and Mrs Gerdtz celebrated their anniversary with family members at Horsham Sports and Community Club.
Mrs Gerdtz said she no longer remembered how Mr Gerdtz proposed.
They became engaged the week before Easter and bought the ring at Bonwick’s Jeweller.
The couple married in Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Murtoa.
Mrs Gerdtz said she and her husband had enjoyed the past 60 years of marriage.
They have two children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs Gerdtz said she and her husband were farmers at Murtoa until they retired to Horsham.
She credited a strong Anglican faith as the secret to their successful marriage.
