The implications of being wed on April 1 were far from their minds when they tied the knot in 1961.
“It was Easter Saturday,” Mrs Griffin said.
The Griffins were among many Wimmera couples who bought their wedding and engagement rings from Horsham’s Bonwick’s Jeweller more than half a century ago.
Mr Griffin also turned to the jeweller for several gleaming gifts during the couple’s engagement.
He bought an intricate necklace for Mrs Griffin’s birthday in 1960.
Later that month, for Christmas, she received an equally stunning watch.
People have rushed to share their memories of the jeweller after the Mail-Times ran a Man in the Corner item about the business’s sign being discovered last month.
