Hugh Delahunty to lose ministerial portfolios

OUTGOING Member for Lowan Hugh Delahunty will lose his ministerial portfolios next week.

Victorian Premier Denis Napthine yesterday announced Mr Delahunty and three other retiring ministers would all be replaced with fresh frontbenchers.

"I'll be standing down as minister on Monday," Mr Delahunty said.

Member for Northern Victoria Damian Drum will take over Mr Delahunty's roles as Minister for Sport and Recreation and Veterans Affairs.

Mr Delahunty said Mr Drum was passionate about both portfolios, and supported his appointment.

"I am very comfortable with the decision made by the Premier and the Deputy Premier," he said.

"I think it's the right thing to do to give the new ministers time in their portfolios before the election in November."

He said the reshuffle would allow him more time to devote to his electorate until he retired at the election.

Member for Gippsland East Tim Bull will take over from retiring member Jeanette Powell as Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Local Government.

Member for Morwell Russell Northe will be Minister for Energy and Resources, replacing retiring member Nicholas Kotsiras.

Member for Ferntree Gully Nick Wakeling has been promoted to Minister for Higher Education and Skills, replacing Peter Hall.

South-Eastern Metropolitan representative Inga Peulich has picked up the position of cabinet secretary, a position Mr Wakeling once held.
