Traffic has been diverted away from O'Callaghan's Parade to Firebrace Street because of a burst water main.
Horsham Rural City Council operations engineer Martin Duke estimated the lane should be opened about 4pm.
But he cautioned people to drive carefully.
"The water has soaked into the pavement," he said.
"We are now worried about the potential for further damage."
GWMWater will return next week to make more permanent repairs.
Until then, Mr Duke said there would be signs warning motorists of the potential traffic hazard.
Council will closely monitor the patch of road over the weekend.
"If worst comes to worst, we will shut it down again," Mr Duke said.
