MORE than 1500 people attended Horsham's Anzac Day dawn service.
The temperature plunged to 2.3 degrees at 6.30am, as the ceremony began at Sawyer Park.
But the crowd just kept growing.
Horsham RSL senior vice-president and commemorative chairman David Eltringham was stunned by the number of people before him once the silhouette of the thickly swathed mass was lit by daylight.
"I dare not put a figure on it, but it would be in excess of 1500 of our townspeople here today," he said.
Rugged up among them were Horsham father Rod Jenkins and his family, from Horsham.
They are descendants of a Darwin defender.
"Ron Trigger was in Darwin, he actually stopped from going across the borders, when they thought they were coming over here," Mr Jenkins said.
He said attending Horsham's Anzac Day dawn service was a family tradition.
"The service is getting bigger and bigger every year," he said.
"Next year will be bigger, I reckon."
