The MS 24 hour Mega Swim will see teams swimming laps or playing squash or racquetball on Saturday and Sunday.
Team Horsham Hammerheads is participating in the swim event and has already raised more than $1400.
Team captain Tayla Nagorcka, 13, said they were raising money for a great cause.
“It is a 24-hour swim, so it gives us a perspective about what it is like for people who suffer from multiple sclerosis because they suffer from it 24 hours a day,” she said.
“It is also a great way to get together with friends and raise money.”
There are 15 people in the team, ranging in age.
“I heard about it from a teacher at school and thought it would be a great event to be involved with,” Tayla said.
The St Brigid’s College student is also captain of the Horsham Sharks Swimming Club.
The team has raised money with a bake sale at the college and a barbecue on Monday.
Tayla said they hosted another barbecue on Friday at Bunnings in Horsham.
“Our goal is $3000,” she said.
Tayla said swimming in the middle of the night would be a challenge, but she was looking forward to it.
“Thank you to all the people who have donated money so far and good luck to my fellow team members,” she said.
Horsham’s Team ERSA is participating in the squash event.
The team has raised $740.
The event will be at Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre.
It is also a competition and points are awarded to each team based on the amount of money raised.
