ARARAT remains undefeated in 2014 after a 50-point win against arch-rival Stawell at Central Park, Stawell on Sunday.
After trailing by four goals at the major break, the Rats fought their way back into the match in the third quarter before running over the top of the host in a 18.13 (121) to 11.5 (71) victory.
The visitors proved too strong in the final term, kicking nine goals to one, and is now on top of the Wimmera Football League ladder after the opening two rounds.
Beau Cosson, five goals, Tyler Cronin, four, and Jack Ganley, four, were the stars for the Rats with big second halves in front of goal and around the ground.
Rats co-coach Andrew Louder said it was a pleasing win after a disappointing first half.
“They outplayed us in the first half, but we knew our fitness would be right up there and that’s an advantage I think we had,” he said.
Warriors coach Brad Cassidy said it was a game of two halves.
“There were some positives to take out of it, but we just got blown out of the water in the last quarter,” he said.
Warriors Andrew Cameron and Tom Eckel kicked two goals each, while Eckel was named the side’s best after a tireless midfield display.
