Staff at the neighbouring Horsham West and Haven Primary School campus noticed a series of burnouts on the field when they arrived at work on Wednesday morning.
Horsham Rural City Council and police were notified.
Councillor and Haven resident Sue Exell said repairs would be costly.
But she was more disappointed by the inconvenience the incident had caused.
"The school uses that field all the time for their sports," she said.
"This was the first summer we had actually had a green field, and groups have been starting to use it for a bit of pre-season football training."
Cr Excell said people had also gathered there to fly kites.
Council staff have started repairs.
But Cr Exell said the field would still be fenced off afterwards, to prevent repeat offending.
"It’s just not going to be as accessible as it was before," she said.
People wanting to use the reserve will have to contact the Haven Recreation Committee.
"We're just hoping somebody might be aware of someone that might have been doing it," Cr Exell said.
She said people with any information should call Horsham police on 5382 9200.
