Keith Fischer, 51, was charged in relation to an explosion during the Grampians bushfire in January.
Horsham Detective Senior Constable Brad McKenzie said the defendant’s property was burnt.
“As a result, some explosive substances being stored on the property were impacted by fire and an explosion occurred,” he said.
“No persons were injured, but the Country Fire Authority had to retreat from fighting the fire at the time due to the explosion.”
Police were subsequently notified.
The matter was adjourned until later this month.
