Benjamin Smith, 26, faced Horsham Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on six charges including recklessly having caused serious injury.
His matter was adjourned, and he was remanded in custody pending another court appearance later this month.
Police arrested the alleged assailant after attending a Horsham house about 3.30am on Tuesday.
Horsham Inspector Trevor Ashton said a heated argument between two men escalated into a fight.
The victim, 28, suffered a serious injury to one of his fingers after being punched by a knife-wielding man.
Police believed the injured man’s finger might have to be amputated, but could not verify whether he had lost his finger.
He was known to have had surgery.
