Horsham Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Travis Kerr said a light gold 2002 Nissan Pulsar was reported missing from an elderly Nhill woman’s house on Monday.
“The vehicle was last seen in the Rainbow-Yaapeet area about 5pm on Monday,” he said.
Det Sen Const Kerr said a substantial amount of cash and jewellery had also been stolen from the property.
Two suspects are still at large.
Police are searching for a bald Caucasian man, about 40, 170 to 180 centimetres tall.
The man has a medium build and an unshaven face.
Police are also looking for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander woman in her 20s, with dark hair.
The woman is about 170 centimetres tall and of medium build.
“We believe the same suspects gained access to a farming shed at Lorquon where they stole a $200,000 tractor,” Det Sen Const Kerr said.
Police found the 2006 John Deere 8330 tractor abandoned near Nhill about 3.40pm on Monday.
“When they stole the tractor, police believe these people also burgled a vacant residential premises on the farm,” Det Sen Const Kerr said.
One of the tractor’s owners, Vanessa Drendel, said the family had learnt a valuable lesson about farm security.
“For the first time, unless we go on holidays, we locked our back door on Monday night,’’ she said.
“We need to be a bit more vigilant, without becoming vigilantes.”
Police believe they first encountered the suspects driving an allegedly stolen red Kia Cerato rental sedan on the Western Highway between Stawell and Horsham about 10pm on Saturday.
Two pursuits followed, in which the car allegedly reached speeds of up to 175kmh.
The car was found abandoned at Lorquon at 7.10pm on Sunday.
