REIGNING premier Dimboola has broken through for its first win of the season, beating Stawell by 99 points at Dimboola Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
The Roos were challenged early by the Warriors but proved too strong as the game wore on, running out 25.17 (167) to 10.8 (68) victors.
Dimboola coach Stuart Farr said it was a confidence-boosting win for his charges.
“It was our first four-quarter performance – we played as a team and the result showed that,” he said.
“It started with the way we tackled and the pressure we applied, and it gives us confidence that we’re still capable of playing that style of footy.”
Roos forward Lachie Watts goaled within the first 30 seconds of the game and finished with five majors, while Ash Clugston, five goals, and Lachie Exell, four, also provided scoring avenues for the hosts.
Midfielders Andrew Seers and Josh Rentsch were pivotal, while Tyler Blake broke the game open in the second half with his run and carry.
Stawell coach Brad Cassidy said his side would have work to do over the next two weeks.
“At the end of the day, Dimboola was too good – it’s as simple as that,” he said.
“We still took some positives out of it and we’ll work on a few things during the next fortnight.
“We just didn’t sustain our pressure for long enough.”
Warriors Chris Ford, Jackson Dark, Cam Kimber, Jesse Eckel and Tom Eckel all had impressive games.
