Victoria Police spokeswoman Creina O’Grady said two cars collided at the intersection of Quantong Cemetery Road and Polkemmet Road, in the Polkemmet district north of Quantong, about 4.30pm on Monday.
Major Crime Investigation Unit detectives are working to determine the cause of the crash.
“The driver of the east-bound car died at the scene, while the driver of the other vehicle was taken to Wimmera Base Hospital in Horsham with minor injuries,” Ms O’Grady said.
Police have not confirmed the identity of the dead man, 43.
The injured driver was also a Vectis man, 68.
Wimmera Base Hospital have not answered inquiries about the man’s welfare.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Leonie Johnson appealed for anyone with information about the crash to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
Investigators believe several drivers stopped to provide assistance.
“But police haven’t actually had a chance to speak with them,” Ms Johnson said.
