The Foundation Fluoro Football Fundraising Fortnight, which raises money for the Wimmera Health Care Group Foundation, started last week.
Organiser Debbie Simpson said Wimmera and Horsham District league football games in Horsham last week and on Saturday would take on a 1980s tinge, with footballers, netballers and umpires all wearing fluoro armbands to show their support.
She said Wimmera schools, including Ss Michael and John’s Primary School and Horsham West Primary School, had also embraced the fluoro theme.
Mrs Simpson said Horsham McDonald’s had decorated the store and its staff wore brightly-coloured clothes in the spirit of the fundraising fortnight.
“Maccas has ties and headbands,’’ she said.
“In the footy they’ll use a yellow ball.’’
Mrs Simpson said Horsham and district footballers often used the Wimmera Health Care Group Foundation facilities after being injured.
“If local people are injured at football, netball or school, they are taken to the Horsham or Dimboola campus of Wimmera Health Care Group for treatment,’’ she said.
“Everyone needs the services of Wimmera Health Care Group at some point – that’s why it’s important to give where you live.’’
Mrs Simpson said the foundation had fully funded an adult mobility garden construction in Horsham for people undergoing rehabilitation after injuries or strokes.
She said the foundation’s newest major fundraiser was to redevelop oncology facilities in the Wimmera.
