Wimmera Catchment Management Authority announced last month it had found the platypuses in Mackenzie Creek.
It was the first time in more than a decade researchers had found juvenile platypus in the creek.
The naming competition was part of Wimmera CMA's festivities.
Cody, 6, decided to name the boy Max and the girl Kenzy as a nod to the creek.
Five other children received awards for an associated art competition, which involved drawing a platypus habitat.
Edenhope's Mackenzee Chenhall, 8, won the foundation to grade three category of the award.
"I love art," she said.
Her love of drawing inspired her entry.
Brimpaen's Duncan and Ruby Purcell, aged 12 and 10 respectively, won the grades four to six category.
"I did the drawing and Ruby coloured in the platypus," Duncan said.
"We saw platypus at Laharum Hall - there was a display."
Horsham's Ulani Hobbs, 7, was highly commended for her entry into the foundation to grade three category.
Harrow's Miah Kelly's entry into the grade four to six category was also highly recommended.
Wimmera CMA waterway project officer Greg Fletcher thanked all of the entrants for their participation and congratulated the winners for their artistic flair.
He said the competitions were intended to raise awareness for platypuses living in the Wimmera.
"We have never had baby platypuses before," he said.
