HORSHAM Saints have won three in a row after beating Dimboola at Coughlin Park on Saturday.
The 19.16 (130) to 14.12 (96) win was the Saints’ second grand final re-match triumph for the season after they won by 21 points in the season opener.
Saints coach Shayne Breuer said it was another full team performance.
“We had 21 contributors – everyone played their role and when that happens you’re going to win more than you lose,” he said.
“Our midfield and forward line, which hasn’t functioned at its best over the past couple of weeks, worked really well and our backline was fantastic.
“Any win’s a good win, but to get away with one on Saturday was great.”
The Saints limited the Roos’ influence early with the breeze, before opening up a 28-point advantage at half-time.
The Roos responded, pulling the margin back to just a point at the final change.
However, a seven goal to two final quarter put the match well and truly in the host’s favour.
Saints spearhead Gavin Kelm, six goals, and Les Butler, three goals, ruckman Michael Rowe and midfield recruit Sam Clyne all impressed.
Cooper Bateson made his senior debut and Steve Thomas played his first game of the season.
The win was dampened by Dennis Adams injuring his shoulder.
The result puts an end to Dimboola’s three-game winning streak.
The reigning premier hit form with big wins over Stawell, Nhill and Ararat but has now slipped back outside the top five.
Midfielders Shaun McDonald and Elliot Braithwaite were named the Roos’ best, while Ash Clugston, four goals, and Lachie Exell, three, contributed up forward.
