Horsham Sergeant Jason Bergen said police were called to Wimmera Base Hospital’s emergency department after reports a woman was yelling and abusing staff.
“When she saw police she ran across the road and got into her car,'' he said.
"Police members walked towards the vehicle and she drove her car at them so they had to take evasive action. She drove off and police followed.”
Sgt Bergen said the woman led police around Horsham before leaving the city along Williams Road and eventually stopping on Longerenong Road one kilometre west of Murtoa.
“Two negotiators talked to her for between two and three hours,” he said.
“In the end she was removed from the car and she was brought to the station and held pending a psychiatric assessment.”
Sgt Bergen said the woman would be charged with conduct endangering persons and pursuit charges.
