One will measure stream flow and the other will measure rain.
Member for Lowan Hugh Delahunty visited Natimuk on Thursday afternoon to announce the State Government would provide $25,000 for the project.
The gauges will transmit real-time creek flow data to a central location in the Wimmera.
“Natimuk was hit by flooding in January 2011, with about 28 homes flooded and 35 properties severely affected,” Mr Delahunty said.
“The absence of flood gauges in the town made it difficult for emergency response agencies to accurately monitor and communicate flood conditions during the flood.
"The Natimuk flood investigation, completed in 2011, identified installation of flood warning equipment in the upper Natimuk Creek catchment as the most effective way to alert the Natimuk community of an impending flood.
“The new stream flow gauge and rainfall gauge will send real-time alerts about rising creek flows to a central location for dissemination to the community.”
