Cosson played in Vic Country 2’s 80-point win over the Victorian Amateur Football Association, while Cavanagh found himself in unfamiliar territory for Vic Country’s under-19 side in its 116-point win against the same opponent.

Horsham Demon Jordyn Burke captained the Vic Country side. 

“I started at centre half-forward in the first quarter, but our centre half-back broke his nose and I had to go down back,” Cavanagh said.

“I’ve never really played backline, but it brought me into the game.

“It’s good to know that I can go back if someone goes down, I’ve got that confidence now.”

Cavanagh, who has come through the Rats’ junior system, has kicked 19 goals in his 10 senior matches this season and represented the Wimmera league at interleague level.

He said his Vic Country debut was an eye-opener to a higher standard of football.

“It was definitely a lot more skilful, that was the main thing that stood out,” he said.

“I learned a lot and it’s given me a lot of confidence.”

Cosson has arguably been the recruit of the Wimmera league season since moving from Eastern Football League club Noble Park.

The full-forward has kicked 38 goals in 10 matches, plus five in the Wimmera league’s interleague win.

He said representing Vic Country was one of the highlights of his football career.

“It was sensational,” he said.

“I really loved it, it was one of the better weekends I’ve had in footy.

“It was so well run and the professionalism of everyone who ran it was fantastic.”

Cosson snared two goals in the win playing in a half-forward role.
