The Burras jumped out to an early lead against Nhill, taking a six-goal advantage into the first change at Nhill’s Davis Park.
It was a lead which extended to 10 goals at half-time, before the Tigers fought back.
The margin was cut to eight goals heading into the final quarter, but the Burras held on to claim a 43-35 win.
It was their first win since July 28, 2012, when they defeated Dimboola by the smallest of margins.
Burras coach Kristin Starick said it was pleasing to see the side break its drought.
“It was a pretty big win,” she said.
“A few of the girls were a little bit emotional.
“Some of the girls had not won for a long time.”
Starick said the win was reward for her team’s improvement over the course of the season.
“They played as a team and they moved the ball well down the court,” she said. “The girls are on the improve so it was really a matter of time.
To get the win was a good celebration of their efforts.”
Burras captain Lauren Hotker – who played in the 2012 win against Dimboola – said it was nice to finally be able to celebrate a win again.
“There was lots of celebration,” she said.
“We sung the song with the footballers after they won, which was really nice.
"We hope we can build on this, keep the girls together and get some more wins.”
Starick said shooters Emma Huff, 23 goals, and Nikeisha Grant, 20 goals, were instrumental in the win, as was goal defence Lateesha Gascoyne.
Starick said her side was hopeful of adding to its success before the season’s end.
“I think they’ve got the winning feeling and feel like anything could happen now,” she said.
In other A Grade matches, Ararat ended Horsham’s winning streak, triumphing 34 to 31, while Dimboola pipped Stawell 53-52 and Warrack Eagles defeated Horsham Saints 46-38.
