Rider registrations for the Arapiles Cycling Event, or ACE, opened at the start of the month.
The event is a fundraiser for Wimmera Drug Action Taskforce, the driving force behind the forums.
Horsham Rural City councillor and organising committee member Mark Radford said entries had trickled in.
"We don't expect a lot of entries until next month, but obviously if people do enter the event earlier, it helps with planning and logistics," he said.
Cr Radford said people from Melbourne, Halls Gap and Horsham had expressed interest in putting teams together.
"The word is certainly out there," he said.
Serious cyclists can embark on a 104-kilometre circuit from Horsham to Mt Arapiles and back.
A bus shuttle service to Horsham will be available for those who only want to ride the 56 kilometres to Mt Arapiles.
Alternatively, people can ride the Arapiles Big Sky Bicycle Trail from Natimuk.
For those who wanted to be involved, but not get on a bike, Cr Radford said Volunteering Western Victoria was helping recruit event marshals.
Wimmera Drug Action Taskforce co-ordinator Brendan Scale said raising awareness of drug and alcohol misuse was the event's key priority.
"This is an opportunity for the community to get behind the philosophy of the taskforce," he said.
Mr Scale said money raised would also help propel the taskforce's work.
Cr Radford said people could call him on 0427 840 324 or visit www.aceride.com.au for more information.
