A Geoscience Australia spokeswoman said the 1.6 magnitude earthquake's epicentre was 15 kilometres north of Melbourne's CBD, near Campbellfield.
Theresa Pham from Meadow Heights said she felt the earth shake for about three to five seconds about 11am.
She said she was lying on her bed when the bed moved, she heard a noise and felt the tremor.

Residents in and around Roxburgh Park and Greenvale also told radio 3AW they had felt the ground move.
