Rupanyup, Minyip and Murtoa will connect to the service by the end of the year.

They will be the Wimmera’s first towns to connect through fixed wireless towers in the town.

Mayor Andrew McLean said Minyip and Rupanyup would reap the benefits of advancement in the towns.

The two towns’ water supply was upgraded to drinking quality last month.

Cr McLean said Rupanyup was receiving an upgraded sewerage system.

“There’s a few things happening down there,” he said.

“It’s pretty exciting for Yarriambiack and the southern part of it.”

Cr McLean said high-speed internet connections could improve business opportunities.

Rupanyup resident and councillor Ray Kingston agreed.

“We’re going from very ordinary broadband to something comparable anywhere in the world,” he said.

“We’ve got another service we should be able to take for granted.”

Cr Kingston said he knew people who had turned down business due to inferior internet connections.

He said the NBN had the potential to change lives.

Cr Kingston said with upgraded water and internet systems, the shire was more attractive to others.

“In a small population it only takes a couple of families to move here to make a big difference,” he said.
