The Saints proved too strong for the Magpies on their home turf, claiming a high-scoring 20.17 (137) to 17.7 (109) victory.

It was the Saints’ first win over the visitors this season, after the Magpies won the teams’ previous meeting by a kick.

The Saints, now third, have moved three games clear of the fourth-placed Magpies with four rounds remaining before finals.

Daniel Needs, five goals, and Bradley Palipuaminni, four, led the way for the hosts in front of goal, while Caleb Bloomer and coach James McNamee were named the side’s best.

For the Magpies, Cam Millward stood out, while Jesse Smith and Joel Reynolds kicked three goals each.

The result will leave the Magpies to battle it out with fifth-placed Birchip-Watchem for fourth spot on the ladder.

The Bulls led Wedderburn by 12 points at quarter-time, but were no match for the league leader and reigning premier over four quarters at Donaldson Park, Wedderburn.

Brady Herdman, six goals, Paul Prime, five, and Sam Barnes, five, did the damage on the scoreboard for the Redbacks in their 24.20 (164) to 9.4 (58) thumping of the Bulls.

Herdman was named the team’s best player, while Albert Simpson was the Bulls’ best.

Donald found itself in a similar position – leading at quarter-time – before being overrun by Charlton at Donald Recreation Reserve.

Joey McGrath led the way for the Navy Blues with nine goals in their 21.11 (137) to 8.10 (58) win.

Adam Hall kicked three goals for the Royal Blues, while Luke Carr impressed in defeat.
