The Roos have not played A Grade finals since 1975, when they played off in a semi-final.
In the past two decades, the club was without an A Grade side for eight seasons, from 1998 to 2003 and in 2006 and 2007.
But seven consecutive seasons in the top grade has culminated in a drought-breaking finals appearance.
Dimboola and Wimmera Netball Association life member Bev Hoffmann said it had been a long time between drinks for the Roos, who reached the finals in 1970, 1972 and 1975 and last won an A Grade premiership in 1964.
“It’s been a long, long time,” she said.
“In the ’50s we won it three years in a row, there were only four or five teams in it at that stage.”
The fourth-placed Roos proved too strong for bottom-placed Nhill on Saturday, recording a 71-52 victory at Dimboola Recreation Reserve.
Dimboola coach Tahlia Williams said knowing the side would play finals was a big boost heading into the final three rounds of the season.
“It’s a big boost for the club,” she said.
“Our goal was to get a win and stay in fourth position.
“We were trying to look back through the books and we couldn’t find a date when the A Grade last played finals.
“We’re probably going to have all three sides in finals this year.”
After a close first term, the Roos extended their lead from five goals to 15 at half-time.
The Tigers fought back in the second half, with the Roos managing to increase their lead by just four goals in the second half.
Williams said it was one of her side’s better performances for the year.
“We played really well,” she said.
“It took probably a quarter to steady and once we got going things started to settle well.
“We really put together four consistent quarters and did all the little things right.
“It was our biggest win for the season and hopefully we can maintain that form going into finals.”
Williams said the Roos were strong at both ends of the court.
Defensive duo Carly Werner and Abbey Greig were named among the best players, as was goalie Antoinette Toet.
Toet scored 25 goals, while teenage shooter Billie Barber was on target on 46 occasions.
“Carly was our best player, she got so many intercepts and Abbey was really good as well,” Williams said.
“Billie shot really well and Ant did a lot of work outside the ring.”
For the Tigers, Emma Smith scored 35 goals to be named among her side’s best players alongside Kristy Nottle and Lauren Etherton.
