The money will go towards stage 1b of the school’s building program which is to build four classrooms, seminar rooms, a staff area, a large multi-purpose learning area, basketball courts and outdoor landscaping.
The grant will also be used to upgrade the school’s fire services.
Principal Jeff Gork said the money represented about 30 per cent of the total project.
“We still have to fund a significant part of it, but this is great assistance,” he said.
Mr Gork said the grant recognised the school was in a growth area.
“It recognises our hard work and all the planning we’ve done,” he said.
“It also recognises that our school is viable and this is a popular move for us.”
Mr Gork said the project would go to tender within four weeks and he hoped building would start by the end of October.
Holy Trinity Lutheran School introduced year seven classes this year.
It plans to have year eight classes next year and year nine classes in 2016.
Member for Mallee Andrew Broad congratulated the school on receiving the grant.
“The contribution from the Federal Government represents our commitment to provide all Australian students with the infrastructure that will help them learn and equip them to enter an increasingly challenging world,” he said.
“A good education gives our young people opportunity to achieve personal success and contribute to our nation.”
Parliamentary Secretary to the Education Minister Senator Scott Ryan said the program provided money for non-government schools to help them improve capital infrastructure where they otherwise might not have access to sufficient capital resources.
“I congratulate Holy Trinity Lutheran School for its commitment to improving the opportunities for its students,” he said.
