If the Roos beat the Burras at Dimboola Recreation Reserve, they will finish fifth and face the Burras in an elimination final the following week.
If they lose and Ararat beats Stawell for the third time this season the Roos will lose the opportunity to defend their premiership flag.
Dimboola's task might be simple, but it will not be easy.
The Roos have lost to the Burras in both of their previous matches this season, by margins of nine and 16 points.
They have only beaten a top-four team once from nine attempts.
But Stuart Farr believes his side is capable of claiming the all-important four points.
"We're confident we can get the job done," he said.
"They've got the points in the bank and they definitely won't have any fears about confronting us. We're up against it and we've put ourselves in this spot, but we've got a chance to get out of it.
"If we don't win we don't deserve to play finals."
Minyip-Murtoa coach Scott Arnold said his side had no preference about playing either Dimboola or Ararat next week.
He said the Burras would focus on entering the finals in the best possible shape.
"We know in a week's time we're playing in an elimination final and we're just focused on ourselves," he said. "We're starting to get a full squad out there and we're tracking alright."
Arnold said the Burras would be confident after two wins over the Roos this year.
"Both have been pretty hotly contested games," he said.
"It will be no different to any other week against good opposition you have to play well and take your opportunities when they present."
Arnold said James Burke, Brayden Ison and Daniel Launer were possible inclusions after being late withdrawals at the weekend, while Zac Cross could also come into consideration.
For the Roos, Farr said Tom Magee, fractured cheekbone, would miss, while centre-half-back Matt Magee was in doubt.
However, small forward Jeremy Pekin will return to bolster a forward line spearheaded by the competition's two leading goal-kickers Lachie Exell and Ash Clugston.
