Grade five and six teacher Alison Hausler said the students dressed in olden days clothing and packed their snacks in brown paper tied with string before attending the Found Day celebration on Wednesday.
She said many of the children were captivated by the Lost in the Bush story.
Mrs Hausler said several students chose to enter Wimmera Regional Library Corporation’s Lost in the Bush creative writing competition, while others contributed to a ‘wall of interest’ at the school.
“We did a lot of individual research and we watched the movie as well,” she said.
“The students were so excited about dressing up that we had to have a practice dress-up day on Monday so they wouldn’t be overwhelmed on the day.”
Mrs Hausler said costumes were sourced from Sovereign Hill, Harrow Sound and Light Show and opportunity shops.
“We’re off to Sovereign Hill next week, which we do every second year, so this has been most timely,” she said.
“We’ve been studying the 1850s all term. They’ve been quite immersed in it.”
Mrs Hausler said the school benefited from an education pack designed by West Wimmera and Horsham Rural City councils.
The package was sent to Wimmera schools, inviting young people to participate in cultural and environmental studies, art exhibitions and humanities investigations.
