The competition involved students choosing their favourite book and creating a book trailer or designing a book cover.
Warracknabeal College year 11 students Abby Sleep and Summer Schultz created a book trailer based on The Hunger Games.
Theirs were one of eight book trailers shortlisted for the competition out of more than 200 entries.
Summer said the pair heard about the competition and was interested in having a go.
“It was a lot of fun to film the trailer, we got our siblings involved and there were a few action scenes, which were fun,” she said.
“We filmed it for about two or three days and then I was editing every day after school for more than a week, so we put a lot of effort into it.
“It turned out really well in the end.”
Abby said they decided to do The Hunger Games because they both really liked the book.
“It’s got so many different sides to it – there is violence and fighting but there is also a romantic side,” she said.
They both said they were excited to be shortlisted.
“It’s a statewide competition so there would’ve been heaps of other people,” Abby said.
“We’re pretty stoked.”
She said people could visit education.vic.gov.au/papercuts and vote for their video.
Winners will be announced at a presentation in Melbourne on Friday, where all shortlisted trailers will be aired.
