Dimboola Primary School students will form small multi-age groups to visit 24 sites in the town.

Race organiser and leading teacher Sandra Gove said the race fitted with the theme of Literacy and Numeracy Week – explore.

“The different sites are in close proximity to our school, and our kids will find them by reading a map,” she said.

“At each site there will be a picture storybook cover and a question underneath it which relates to a site.

“After the race they’ll meet at the football ground for a barbecue.”

Mrs Gove said the race would increase literacy and numeracy skills through map reading and linking books.

She said the exercise would also help to boost students’ town knowledge.

“There are probably quite a few sites the kids might not have been to before,” she said. 

“We will be going to murals that have recently been painted and Aggies Lane, with agapanthus.”

Mrs Gove said the multi-age groups would provide students with an opportunity to foster relationships across year levels.

“It’s like a family atmosphere, blending all the ages and abilities,” she said. “Students will be working with other students they normally don’t work with.”

She said a number of parents had volunteered to help supervise the race.
