Mrs Bassett, who came runner-up in this year’s The Biggest Loser – Challenge Australia, has started a ‘smile campaign’.
The campaign involves people taking a photo of themselves with a numbered ‘smile card’ and posting it to Mrs Bassett’s Facebook page.
“You don’t have to have a photo if you don’t want to, it’s just about sharing happiness around,” Mrs Bassett said.
“The kids and I love spreading positivity. We want to see how far we can get cards and smiles to spread.”
Mrs Bassett said almost 400 smile cards had been distributed.
They have surfaced in the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Argentina and New Zealand.
In Australia, they have been spread across Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland.
Mrs Bassett started the initiative with her daughters, Ashley, 10, and Makala, 8, about two months ago.
“On the first day we went up the street in Ararat with a photographer,” she said.
“Some people started to ask me why I was doing it. I asked them, ‘why not?’.”
Mrs Bassett said she wanted to set a good example for her daughters.
“You get on social media these days and everything is so negative,” she said.
“I’m trying to teach my children to be positive.
“People come up to me in the street now and ask me for a smile.
“My kids get so excited.”
Mrs Bassett has started mailing out smile cards to people who request them.
She said people could send her a private message on her Facebook page, Team Sharon – The Biggest Loser Australia 2014 to request a card.
Mrs Bassett said participating in The Biggest Loser had turned her life upside down.
“I live my life totally differently now,” she said.
“I’ll give anything a go – I don’t hide any more.
“I want people to feel like I feel.”
