A man is in hospital after being stabbed in Melbourne's inner-north on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to Napier Street, Fitzroy, after the stabbing, which happened about 7am near the corner of Leicester Street, a police spokeswoman said.
A man aged in his 30s was taken to The Royal Melbourne Hospital, the spokeswoman said.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said the victim was believed to be in a stable condition.
The offender remains at large and police have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
