March Australia is a co-ordinated event that will coincide with other rallies across Australia.
Guest speaker at the Horsham rally Carl Sudholz said the marches were to express concern about Federal Government policies relating to climate change, renewable energy, budget issues and deregulation of universities.
“People are marching in a public display of dissatisfaction,” he said.
“For me, I’m a climate reality leader and believe there is nothing more important than acting on climate changes issues.
“We must do something for the sake of our economy and future generations.
“Government policies around climate change have been outrageous.”
Mr Sudholz said a Stawell resident would speak about open-cut mining at the rally.
“Then there will be an open mic session when people can get up and share their point of view,” he said.
“We’d love to get a good crowd there, even though it is on a Saturday during football finals.
“People can share in the discussion and join with us to protest against policies.
“We’d love to hear what people have to say.”
Mr Sudholz said people could organise to speak at the event, outside of the open mic session.
“People can send us a message through our Facebook page and we can organise for them to have a chance to speak,” he said.
The rally will start at noon in May Park, Horsham.
Mr Sudholz said people did not have to register to take part.
“It should go for less than an hour, so it is not a big commitment out of people’s days,” he said.
“We are making a stand that people in the Wimmera do not agree with the government.
“Hopefully it will encourage our members of parliament to listen a bit more.”
Mr Sudholz said there would be marches in other regional centres tomorrow as well.
He said people could go to facebook.com/marchaustraliahorsham for more information.
