Cassie, a maltese shih tzu, arrived at Horsham Rural City Council with extensive matting and bad breath.
After grooming and dental surgery, Ms Stasinowsky adopted Cassie through Horsham People for Animal Welfare and Support.
She said she instantly fell in love with Cassie.
“I lost my own dog a while ago and I was looking at Horsham PAWS online for a new pet,” she said.
“I thought I would get a cat but when I saw Cassie I fell in love with her.
“She is so beautiful, but still a bit timid.”
Ms Stasinowsky said she was glad Cassie had found a good home.
“I don’t think I could cope if I had to give her back,” she said.
“I didn’t want to start again with a little puppy and Cassie is six years old, so she is perfect for me.
“We will grow old together now.”
Ms Stasinowsky said she enjoyed Cassie’s company.
“I’m excited about it and my family is excited that I have company again,” she said.
Horsham PAWS vice-president Tarni Eldridge said the group could not have found Cassie a new home without the help of Horsham Veterinary Hospital and Cuddly Dog Grooming.
“Without the partnerships, dedication and support from both of these businesses, none of this would have been possible,” she said.
“Cassie is a wonderful dog with lots of love to give and we can now say she is pain free and living a wonderful life with Barb.”
Ms Stasinowsky thanked Horsham PAWS for its support.
