Club treasurer Rick Walker said entrants were expected to come from Melbourne, Ballarat and South Australia.

He said it was a big event for the club.

“This is something we’ve done since about 1968,” he said.

“There was a 12-year hiatus when we had no water, and 2012 was the year they came back.

“It would be good if they got 20 boats here.

“It’s almost like having one of the big Melbourne footy clubs come out and start the season by playing at your ground.”

Mr Walker said the regatta would be an action-packed weekend.

“They’ll get here on the Friday night and there will be heats on Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning,” he said.

“These guys are really good sailors. They are great to watch, especially if there’s a bit of wind.

“I’d encourage anybody to come and have a look.

“We love having the event and it starts our season.”
