After faltering on grand final day for three consecutive years, the Tigers have finally tasted the ultimate success, winning the 2014 Mallee Football League premiership.
The Tigers turned the tables on 2013 premier Woomelang-Lascelles, claiming a 11.14 (80) to 9.8 (62) win over the Cats at Underbool Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
It was the Sea Lake-Nandaly Tigers’ second premiership since Sea Lake-Nandaly merged with Berri-Culgoa at the end of 2002 – and their first since 2009.
But it did not come easily against a Woomelang-Lascelles outfit determined to win back-to-back flags.
The Cats held the Tigers goal-less in the opening quarter to hold a 23-point lead at the first change.
Devin McFarlane had two goals at quarter-time as his side looked in control.
However, the Tigers quickly found their feet with a six-goal-to-one second quarter.
A four-goal deficit became an eight-point lead at half-time, with Tigers co-coach Jarrod Arentz stamping his authority on the contest with a three-goal second term.
The Cats bounced back in the third quarter, with a brace of goals from Jayden Lonergan reclaiming the lead.
But the Tigers kicked two of the next three goals to level the scores at 55 apiece at three-quarter-time.
Arentz kicked his fourth early in the term to inch the Tigers ahead, before Aaron Lonergan replied just minutes later to put the teams back on equal terms.
The Tigers held the Cats to just one behind for the rest of the final term, as they kicked another 2.7 to finish 18-point victors.
Arentz finished with five to have a big impact for the Tigers, with Jason Collins, Simon Weekley and Tom Summerhayes all among the side’s best performers.
Jamie Church, Trent Donnan and McFarlane were the Cats’ leading players, with Jayden Lonergan kicking three goals.
In the reserves, Beulah claimed the flag with a 39-point triumph over Sea Lake-Nandaly Tigers.
Ouyen United comfortably won the under-16s, accounting for Woomelang-Lascelles by 58 points.
