A six-time senior premiership player with the club, Geue has arguably taken his game to another level this year.
The versatile utility, who has played in a variety of positions throughout the season, has been a key factor of the Demons’ success this season.
Geue said his form had been consistent.
“It’s been a bit of a step up from other years,” he said.
“I’m now one of the older ones in the group and have got to take on a bit more of a leadership role, so that’s probably helped a fair bit.”
Geue played his junior footy at Laharum and, bar a year at Noradjuha-Quantong in 2011, has been a permanent fixture at Horsham for the past decade.
He knows what to expect from grand final week.
“I’ve played in six and it’s always a good build-up,” he said.
“This grand final is just as big as every one.
“It’s another group and especially after missing finals last year, we’re definitely hungry for it again.”
Where Geue lines up on Saturday is yet to be decided.
He has proven influential when running through the midfield, driving the Demons off half-back, lining up at full-back on Horsham Saints spearhead Gavin Kelm or creating play in the forward line, as he proved in the club’s thrilling two-point preliminary final victory at the weekend.
The Demons’ ‘Mr Fix-It’ is prepared for any possibility.
“I daresay Rhona Conboy will have Kelmy and that will free me up around the ground a bit more, but we’ll have to wait and see,” he said.
“I’ve played most of my footy up forward with a bit of time on-ball.
“In the past few years I’ve played a bit in the backline, which I don’t mind now that I’ve learnt to play it.”
A maiden interleague appearance against the North Central league kick-started a sparkling second half of the season for Geue.
“That was the first time I’ve been selected, which was great,” he said.
“That helped a lot with my footy as well, it gave me a bit of confidence.
“The step up to interleague footy, where it was a lot quicker, probably helped a bit – I cottoned on to that and took it back to club level.”
Geue was named the Demons’ best player four times in the final eight home and away matches and in the semi-final loss.
He said last week’s victory against the Warrack Eagles was a real confidence booster.
“We started off the game pretty well and dropped off towards the end, but to actually hold on in the clinch like that was pretty good,” he said.
“We know we can do that in those tight games so hopefully we can do it once more.”
Getting over the Saints will be another tough challenge, but it’s one Geue believes the Demons are capable of.
“They always match up well against us and tend to hold us to low scores, which most teams struggle to do,” he said.
“Hopefully we can get a few boys firing this week and get over the line.”
