Police say the man had been crossing Heatherton Road, near Matthew Flinders Avenue, when he was struck by a Holden Commodore about 3.45pm.

Paramedics treated the man, believed to be aged in his 30s, but he died at the scene.

The driver, an Endeavour Hills man, is assisting police their enquiries.

The man's death brings Victoria's road toll to 180, 15 more than for this time last year.
