Council has previously come under fire from angry residents who have accused the council of not doing enough to fill the lake.
Cr Bruce Meyer said only a very large cash injection would save the ailing waterway.
“The plans relevant to Lake Wallace have been completed and we ask they be tabled at the next council meeting,” he said.
“Most of those are facts known to the council but this is for the community’s information.”
GWMWater will provide the information that will outline the capacity of the lake, what a pipeline to fill the lake would cost and the price of recreational water.
“There is certain information that would be best to be tabled in writing, particularly matters relating to costings and water levels,” Cr Meyer said.
“This isn’t pre-determining any position on what might or might not happen out of this, this is simply laying a foundation.”
Mayor Ron Hawkins said he and Cr Meyer met with Water Minister Peter Walsh, who told them the government would not fill Lake Wallace.
“He pointed out that contained catchments are basically on their own and there’s plenty of precedents. The one he quoted was Natimuk Lake,” he said.
Edenhope resident Robert Pettman, previously critical of the council’s approach to filling the lake, asked if the next council meeting could be switched from Kaniva to Edenhope to give the community the chance to voice their opinion on the costings.
“I’d suggest that it be in Edenhope so as many people as possible can be there to make sure they can talk to council about where they are coming from,” he said.
He said it would help to fix the lack of understanding on council’s position from many in the community.
West Wimmera chief executive Mark Crouch did not rule out the shift.
