Peter John Reynolds, 30, appeared in Horsham Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
He was charged with 34 offences including theft from motor vehicles and criminal damage.
Magistrate Michelle Hodgson said they were serious charges.
She said the damage to vehicles was often more than the value of the items taken.
"I am concerned if you are released on bail, you have an unacceptable risk of committing future offences," she said.
Ms Hodgson ordered Reynolds be remanded in custody until November 12.
Horsham Criminal Investigation Unit Leading Senior Constable Robert Martin told the court 34 cars were broken into in Horsham between September 4 and October 7.
He said police intercepted Reynolds in Roberts Avenue, Horsham, at 1.30am on October 16 and searched his backpack.
"In his backpack there were numerous items including a screwdriver, balaclava, camouflage gloves and a knife," he said.
He said police searched Reynolds' house on October 17.
Leading Sen Const Martin said police found 90 items that were allegedly stolen from vehicles.
He said police interviewed Reynolds, who allegedly told police stealing from cars was his 'thing' and he was doing it to support his family.
Leading Sen Const Martin said police opposed bail because of Reynolds' extensive history of similar offending.
He said Reynolds was at risk of re-offending and was a flight risk.
Leading Sen Const Martin said at least one victim had stated she was significantly affected by the theft.
"She was a student with limited income and claims it has caused her to become traumatised," he said.
Reynolds' mother Kerry Reynolds told the court if her son was released on bail she would care for him and ensure he did not breach his bail conditions.
"He hasn't been at home in a long time and we will support him - he is our son," she said.
A Horsham woman, 29, has also been charged with the thefts.
She has been bailed to appear at Horsham Magistrate's Court on December 17.
